Newcastle United's Brazilian juggernaut Joelinton scared the life out of Liverpool at Wembley - then admitted it was his duty to celebrate every tackle and block like he meant it.

That was the case on numerous occasions as Joelinton stamped his authority on the game from the offset by clipping Dominik Szoboszlai in the opening stages then putting in a series of firm challenges and blocks. Each small win resulted in Joelinton roaring like a lion to leave Liverpool on the ropes in the Carabao Cup final.

Joelinton told me: "Yes, that was my favourite part. That is what this city demands and I want the fans to feel like they have a fan on the pitch, that's what I want to be. I want to give my best and that is what I will always do."

Once deemed a £40million flop as a centre-forward, Joelinton is now very much the club's main midfield enforcer and with three tackles, two blocks and two aerial wins he underlined his status as a cult hero and now a club legend after being a big part of the team that won a trophy.

Joelinton told Chronicle Live: "It's just crazy and one of the happiest days of my life other than my kids being born or my wedding. It is just an incredible feeling. I am just so, so glad and happy. For me, for the fans, they have been through so much but they are incredible. We are really, really happy for them to give them this day."

After the game Joelinton made a beeline for the Newcastle fans and said he wanted to share the moment. He said: "It's amazing. No words can describe how I feel. To celebrate with the fans - they deserve it so much.

"We deserve it because we work so hard. Too be able to break that long time without a trophy is an incredible feeling. We put our names in the history of the club and we go for more."
